The square of Naqsh-e Jahan in Isfahan is more widely known as the Imam Square. It is situated at the center of Isfahan, Iran. The square was constructed in 1958-1629 and is a very important historical site. It should be mentioned that the Imam Square has been added to the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

The square occupies about 89.600 sq.m. area and is surrounded by structures from the Safavid era. On the south side of the square the Shah Mosque is situated, while on the west side – the Ali Qapu Palace.

On the eastern side of the square stands the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque and from the northern side the Keisaria gate opens its doors to the Isfahan Grand Bazaar. Nowadays, the Muslim Frida prayer takes place in the Shah Mosque.

Naghsh-e-Jahan square was built in the place of a small square left from Timurid era. The buildings Imam and Sheikh Lotfollah mosques and gate of Keisaria Bazaar were connected to each other by unified arches. The square’s floor was graveled and flatted, as during that time it has been used for matches and the common games of that era, i.e. Polo and Pillory throwing. The square has also been implemented for the parade of soldiers or armies.
